In container transportation, the handover of containerized goods can occur in different ways, depending on the specific location of the handover.
The responsibilities and obligations of both the container transport operator and the cargo side vary according to the handover method. Furthermore, the content and scope of the container transport operator’s organizational responsibilities also change accordingly.
Today, let’s go over the three important nodes and nine types of transportation handover methods in container transportation, which even logistics newcomers can easily understand!
This is a guide to different modes of transportation in freight forwarding.
3 key “nodes”:
Container Yard (CY)
Also referred to as a yard.
DOOR(DR)
Refers to the consignor or consignee’s factory or warehouse.
Container Freight Station(CFS)
Refers to the port of the container freight station, often used in LCL cargo.
9 different modes of transportation based on these nodes:
Yard-to-yard (CY-CY)
Transporting goods from the container handling area yard at the origin/ loading port to the yard at the destination/unloading port.
Yard to Door (CY-DR)
Transporting goods from the container yard at the port of origin to the consignee’s warehouse or factory warehouse.
Yard to Station (CY-CFS)
Transporting goods from the container handling area yard at the place of origin to the container freight station at the destination.
Door to Door (DR-DR)
Transporting goods from the shipper’s warehouse or factory warehouse directly to the consignee’s warehouse or factory warehouse.
Door-to-yard (DR-CY)
Transporting goods from the shipper’s warehouse/factory to the destination yard/port of unloading.
Door to Station (DR-CFS)
Transporting goods from the consignor’s warehouse to the containerized freight station at the destination.
Station to Station (CFS-CFS)
Transporting LCL cargo from the container freight station at the origin to the station at the destination.
Station Arrival (CFS-CY)
Transporting LCL goods from the container freight station at the origin to the container handling area yard at the destination.
Station to Door (CFS-DR)
Transporting cargo from the containerized freight station at the origin to the consignee’s warehouse or factory warehouse.
