Orders for U.S. Christmas goods are full, sea freight demand exceeds the supply
There are still over six months left until Christmas this year. Suppliers in the United States have placed early orders for Christmas supplies from Yiwu, China.
What could be the reason behind this?
Yiwu, a city in Zhejiang Province known for its production and distribution of Christmas goods, experienced an earlier surge in shipments this summer. This was due to various factors such as ongoing logistical challenges, increasing transportation costs, and fluctuating market demand.
The shortage and high cost of shipping containers had a significant impact, with the price of a 40-foot container sharply rising to over US$20,000. Many international buyers placed their orders two or three months in advance in hopes of receiving their shipments early.
Some Chinese Christmas goods merchants mentioned that due to the uncertainty of shipping schedules, regions with longer shipping times such as Europe and the United States were unable to keep up with the local layaway period, leading them to stop taking orders.
